GETTING RECOGNISED IN THE GHANA MUSIC INDUSTRY IS EASIER THAN DOING MUSIC IN THE UK-MICKEY
UK born Ghanaian Artist Michael Yaw Kwapong known by his stage name Mickey
has said that making it in the Ghana music industry is less difficult
and stressful as compared to the hustle you go through in the UK when you are
an underground artiste.
The young Rapper said because of the number of rappers and musicians in
the UK, It becomes difficult to get mainstream recognition hence his decision
to leave the UK and pursue his music career in his mother’s home country.
He made this revelation while answering a question about why he left the
UK to Ghana purposely to do music.
“Because the UK is so big it’s harder to get known. There are so many
rappers in the UK that have been rapping for so many years and have got nowhere.
Even though my passport says British, My blood is Ghanaian and I want to start
my empire in Ghana.
The Rapper who is currently promoting his single “Desire”said this on the mid-morning coffee
show which airs on Radio GIJ 97.7 fm over the weekend when he was interviewed
by Nana kwabena Agyare popularly called Uncle Dj Rob.
He added that his mom did not support his decision to leave the UK and
come to Ghana to pursue music but she eventually gave in and got to understand
that music was his passion.
Speaking on other issues, Mickey said that he was happy that UK based
Artiste like Eugy and Fuse ODG were making it and was looking forward to
putting Ghana on the map just like how the two were doing.
